Appointment of Family Members for Positions in Financial Companies: A Comparative Study

This study examines the issue of hiring relatives and family members in financial companies, while focusing on the regulatory restrictions imposed and references from selected academic literature on this matter. To do so, this study reviews the legislation, regulations, case law, regulatory directives, policy documents and other relevant sources in twelve states; all with developed economy, strong corporate governance arrangements and a significant insurance market. It should be noted that the states selected, reflect both the common law system and the continental one, by including: The United States of America (federal), Iowa, California, New-York, Canada, Australia, the European Union, England, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Spain.
